A Letter From The President – Kim Harden

As I write this letter it is winter at Smith Mountain Lake. I was speaking with friends the other day, and we are counting down the weeks until we can “summarize” our boats and once again be on the water. With this end in sight, the SMLBA is already planning ahead.

We had the annual board elections and have a fabulous group of volunteers who are ready to make this a great year at Smith Mountain Lake. New to the board are Lori Dillon, Ernie Powers, and John Christman. Returning are Barry Boyce, Chuck Poss, Jon Dabareiner, Brian Hooks, Tim Reith, Tom Truitt, and myself. Each board member brings a unique talent that will serve our association well.

We will host the 11th Annual Tom Maynard Memorial Poker Run this May. It is the premier event for boaters on the lake and kicks off the summer season. This year’s dates are May 16th and 17th. Barry Boyce is chairing the Poker Run committee this year, and it promises to be a great event.

The SMLBA is a community association. We are here to promote our beautiful lake, the lifestyle we enjoy, the charitable organizations that support our area, and of course boating education and the rights of all boaters. To that end the SMLBA donated over $30,000.00 last year to organizations that service our community and support boating safety.

Who says you can’t work hard and have fun doing it! We prove that saying wrong every day at the boating association, and we are proud of our contributions to our lake community. We are an organization of volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for our Poker Run event, membership drives, or various committees we would love to have you join our fun. You can contact me or any of our board members. My email is hardenconsult@aol.com.

We will look forward to a great 2008.

I’ll see you on the water!

Kim Harden
