A Letter From The President – Kim Harden
We are now in the throes of summer, and life is great at Smith Mountain Lake. We had an amazing Poker Run this year, our annual event that kicks off the boating season at the lake. We had boats come from many areas in the mid-atlantic and others as far away as New York state and Ohio. A good time was had by all, and the funds raised go to various charity organizations around the lake that support boating safety. Our Poker Run is an annual lake tradition! You can view photos from this year’s poker run on our website.
If you are reading this letter and haven’t joined the SMLBA, there is new reason to join. Bridgewater Marina has been a partner in extending gas discounts to our members for many years. This year if you join the SMLBA, Bridgewater Marina will offer a 10 cents per gallon gas discount. In conjunction with the Virginia state tax rebate of 17 cents per gallon, you can save 27 cents per gallon by joining SMLBA and receiving the Bridgewater Marina gas discount. Just make sure the boat you are enjoying boasts the SMLBA sticker and you present your SMLBA membership card. It is that simple. You can become a member by downloading an application from this website or go to Bridgewater Marina for instant enrollment.
We all want a fun and safe summer. Please observe two simple rules while boating on Smith Mountain Lake. Above all remember to boat to the right side of the lake, and do not tube, wakeboard, or ski in the main channel. Boating conditions can change dramatically in the course of a few minutes making the main channel congested and traffic extremely dangerous. These two simple rules will help make it a safe summer.
I hope you will enjoy your summer at Smith Mountain Lake. I know I will!
